How does counselling work?
At our introductory session, there will be an opportunity for you to see what it might be like to work with me. You do not have to commit to anything at this stage. I will ask you what brings you to counselling at this point in time and you can ask any questions that you may have about therapy and about what you are expecting. If we decide to work together, we will agree on a convenient time to meet on a regular basis, which is usually weekly.
I aim to provide you with a safe, confidential space in which we can explore what is happening in your life, the issues you want to talk through and how we might work on making things better. I will listen carefully to what you have to say, and I will offer you my thoughts, feelings and knowledge in order to help you gain a better understanding of what you might like to change. Together, we will work towards finding meaning in your past and present experiences, exploring new possibilities for change and to understanding yourself better.
The cost is normally £40 per 50 minute session, but reductions are available for students and those on low income.
